Ian Fleming refers to Sir Stephenson: "...men of super-qualities can exist, and that such men can be super-spies and, by any standard, heroes. Such a man is 'the Quiet Canadian,' otherwise Sir William Stephenson." He also wrote: “James Bond is a highly romanticized version of a true spy. The real thing is … William Stephenson.”
